OUR TEAM
The operations hub is a 1200 sq. ft. office in downtown Grants Pass, Oregon. We handle all types of auctions including estates, heavy equipment, firearms, fine antiques as well as real estate. We specialize in on – site auctions, we are not an auction house.
The office is staffed by Suzie
Shoemaker, manager, and Rhiannon Stine, real estate clerk. Barbara Liska tends
the website and is most often our auction clerk. We have an on site staff of
three full time set - up people and two computer staffers. We also have several
part time folks for extra staffing.
We average five auctions a month, and including charity events, do about 80
auctions per year.
Wayne Liska, an Oregon Grand Champion Auctioneer, attended Western College of Auctioneering. He a member of the National Auctioneers Assn., as well as the Oregon Auctioneers Assn. Wayne and Barbara are both Real Estate Brokers and are members of the National Associates of Realtors, Grants Pass Board of Realtors, Grants Pass and Medford MLS, and members of the Grants Pass Chamber of Commerce. With 31 years of experience in all fields of auctioning, his expertise is sought by many. He has trained several champion auctioneers.
Past auctions have had some remarkable items sold. A metal kitchen cabinet from a covered wagon sold for $800. One square vintage grand piano sold for $15,000 and real estate sold recently for the Oregon Dept. of State Lands sold for $180,000 above expected value.
An upcoming auction lists a Stutz, a Rolls Royce, a DeLorean and over 14 timbered acres of Oregon Coastal real estate.
Dealers do shop our estate and antique auctions. Popular patterns are Fostoria, Blue Willow, Hull, Delft, Beleek, and Cut Crystal of all types.
Our company is constantly striving to improve, and we do watch our customer buying trends. We are finding great bidding competition on farm primitives, 50’s memorabilia and fine cut colored glassware. Dolls seem to be less popular at this time.
We have an advertising program for every type of auction. We maintain a direct mailing list and advertise in local and regional newspapers. Our website is easy to understand and updated regularly with photos and information. It receives thousands of hits. Unique auctions require additional advertising in specialty publications and we contact collector groups. We maintain a library of informational materials on collectibles.
A typical behind the scene look at a Liska auction begins with Suzie, our manager, setting up an appointment with the prospective seller. At this meeting, Wayne Liska views the property to be sold and discusses costs necessary to properly advertise and explains to the seller the auction process. Wayne compiles a descriptive listing of major items and then Suzie categorizes and writes up an advertising flyer, which is direct mailed to our extensive mailing list. Wayne and Suzie put together an advertising campaign, which includes various newspaper ads, and then Barbara places photos and the complete flyer on the website.
Several days before the auction, our on - site staff, under the direction of Jodie Denure, foreman, begins the process of inspecting and prepping items for sale. Items are displayed on matching table cloth covered tables. Larger items are lined up with care for easy viewing at the scheduled public preview.
Auction day begins early, with a short public preview. Buyers are issued buyer numbers which are recorded in our computer system at the registration table or our portable office trailer. Wayne steps to the microphone on time, welcomes everyone and introduces the staff. Our customers appreciate the friendliness and competence of our experienced staff. Jodie and her staff double as ring people and hand deliver most small items directly to the buyer in our seated audience. Larger items are appropriately tagged with buyer numbers for pickup.
As items are sold, our clerk records the item, price and buyer number. The computer staff imputs the information, and the buyer checks out and receives a computer generated receipt.
Every staff person involved at Liska and Associates is so competent in their respective field that each auction runs extremely smooth. Many of the buyers attend regularly and we greet folks as friends and valued customers. We work hard to give quality service to our seller and our buyers and our reputation is impeccable. We are referred to many new clients by folks we have served prior. This kind of recommendation speaks for itself.
